There’s a lot of strategy that goes into choosing where to stay in Venice. The city can be so crowded during peak times, so balancing the desire for comfort and serenity becomes quite the dance. There surely are a number of luxe accommodations that are in the hustle and bustle; the Gritti Palace and Hotel Danieli to name a couple; but if you want to be close enough to walk to the sites without sacrificing your sanity or luxury, we may have found just the best hotel in Venice.
The Palazzo Cristo is a 16th century building purchased by interior design team Anna Covre and Frederic Tubau boasting four apartments within a ten minute walk of the Rialto Bridge. The apartments range from one to three bedrooms and all feature kitchens with high end appliances and intrepid design features. While the main apartments face the beautiful piazza and Basilica Santi Giovanni e Paolo, the entrance is just set off of the busy square, adding an extra layer of privacy to the stay.
So much thought and care was put into the amenities and layouts for each of these rooms, it’s absolutely clear. From ample closet space to literally hidden kitchens (honestly, I didn’t even happen upon the oven range and sink until day two!), the designers have thought of every little detail a guest could dream of. Miele appliances, Nespresso, Frette bedding and towels and David Mallett toiletries. It was just all so lush. They also provide a bottle of prosecco and Italian cookies upon arrival which was just a divine little touch. We had space to hide our suitcases away and hang up all of our clothes, with a washer and dryer to launder them before we departed!
There is also maid service provided every other day but never before noon as to not disturb guests. The only thing missing was a traditional hotel breakfast, but that’s not what we signed up for and there were myriad excellent cafes and bakeries just steps away from the palazzo.
The Rooms
Thoroughly thought out and expertly appointed with no expense spared. These rooms are my new gold standard.
The Food & Drink
The palazzo itself does not have a bar or restaurant, nor provide room service. However, with your hidden kitchen and some of the bset cicchietti nearby, you won’t be going without when you stay at the Palazzo Cristo.
The Ambience
It’s quiet, secluded and far enough away from the rialto as not to feel crowded. Yet close enough to walk to all the main sites in Venice.
Here’s the Jist on The Palazzo Cristo
We love the attention to detail: the sheets, the appliances, the hidden kitchens and tv’s. From the lighting to flooring to the textured walls, everything was painstakingly chosen to fit the room perfectly. And lastly, we love the amenties: Washer dryer, full sunken tubs (in some apartments), dishwashers, cooking ranges. Everything we could possibly need. And finally, we love the location: It’s close to everything without being in the traffic patterns of the tourist spots. Struck just the right balance.
